Vegetable Upma/Uppittu recipe Using Bansi Rava(sooji)-(ಬನ್ಸಿ ರವೆ ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ)

Upma ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು can be made using Bansi Rava or Normal Rava and it is a very common breakfast in South India.  Both tastes good and my husband likes if it is served as a ‘ Chow Chow Bhath with kesari bhath as served in Hotels of karnataka.  It is easier to make, and tastes good if its made with vegetables.


Ingredients : 

Bansi Rava ಬನ್ಸಿ ರವೆ – ಒಂದು ಕಪ್ 1 cup
Cut vegetables ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದ ತರಕಾರಿಗಳು- ಒಂದು ಕಪ್ 1 cup (optional)
Oil ರಿಫೈನ್ಡ್ ಎಣ್ಣೆ -> 5-6 tspns
Mustard ಸಾಸುವೆ-> 1 spn
Jeera ಜೀರಿಗೆ-> 1 spn
Channa dal, urad dal ಕಡಲೆಬೇಳೆ ಉದ್ದಿನಬೇಳೆ- 1 spn to 2 spns each
Green chillies ಹಸಿರುಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ – 5 to 6 based on spice levels
byadgi chilli ಕೆಂಪುಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ – 1 or 2 slit
Coriander leaves ಕೊತ್ತಂಬರಿ ಸೊಪ್ಪು- 1/4 cup
curry leaves ಕರಿಬೇವು – 1 spring
Ginger ಶುಂಠಿ- 1 small piece chopped finely or ginger paste
Onions ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ-1 big or 2 small chopped well
Tomatoes ಟೊಮ್ಯಾಟೋ – 1 big or 2 small chopped well

Method : 

[1] Dry roast or can add little oil and fry Bansi Rava until golden color or light brown. Keep aside to cool. ರವೆಯನ್ನು ಹುರಿದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಿ..

[2] Keep a pan on the stove and heat oil, add mustard, jeera, kadale bele or channa dal, Uddina bele or urad dal, Green chillies, coriander leaves, curry leaves, onion, capsicum, tomato, cut veggies fry well. ಒಗ್ಗರಣೆಗೆ ಹಸಿರುಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ, ಕೊತ್ತಂಬರಿ, ಕರಿಬೇವು, ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ, ಟೊಮ್ಯಾಟೋ ಹಾಕಿ 2 ಕಪ್ ನೀರು ಹಾಕಿ , ಉಪ್ಪು ಹಾಕ್ಈಈ, ಕುದಿಸಿ, ಹುರಿದ ರವೆ ಹಾಕಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಕೆದಕಿ…


[3] Add water and once it starts boiling, add the roasted rawa and stir well.. Put a lid and await for 5 mins.
see if it is properly boiled and serve. 5 ನಿಮಿಷ ಬೆಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ತೆಗೆದು ಬಡಿಸಿ.


[1] We can add any boiled vegetables like finely chopped beans, carrots, potatoes, green peas while water is getting boiled in 3rd step above
[2] or while frying add capsicum pieces and fry well.
