Hayagreeva recipe (ಹಯಗ್ರೀವ ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ)

ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್ ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು..

Hayagreeva ಹಯಗ್ರೀವ is a halwa-like sweet prepared mostly as neivedya ನೈವೇದ್ಯ or festive food.. The word ‘haya‘ means horse… Lord Hayagreeva , one of the incarnations or avatars of Lord Vishnu, is said to like this sweet when offered as neivedya or blessed food and saint shri Vaadiraaja teertharu  ಶ್ರೀ ವಾದಿರಾಜ  ತೀರ್ಥರು  used to offer the sweet to the Lord everyday, as per the legend associated behind this neivedya.. I learnt this recipe from my mother… This is prepared during Devi puje , Guru raaghavendra swamy aaradhana etc

Ingredients needed ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳು

Kadale bele or Bengal gram ಕಡಲೆಬೇಳೆ 1 cup
Bella or jaggery  ಬೆಲ್ಲ 1 cup
Elakki or cardamom ಏಲಕ್ಕಿ 3 powdered with sugar
Raisins and cashews together 3 to 4 tbspns
Dry Coconut grated 1/4 cup (optional )

  • First pressure cook Bengal gram in 2 cups of water for 4 whistles, the gram shouldn’t get mushy and must retain its original shape, but needs to be cooked inside well.. This is very important
  • Now strain water from dal…
  • Keep jaggery and strained, dal cooked water {water only to cover jaggery } and boil until jaggery dissolves well…
  • Once it starts boiling , add cooked dal and boil again until all moisture evaporates..
  • Finally add raisins , cashews , dry coconut fried in ghee, cardamom powder… Once again boil well..
  • Can serve hot or cold..
  • Tastes awesome when chilled in fridge and eaten !!!!!💐 , this is my opinion , and lastly let me know how it turned out if you follow my procedure 💐💐
