Below have provided nucchinunde recipe – steamed dumplings , as prepared in my home..

ಕೆಳಗೆ ನುಚ್ಚಿನುಂಡೆ ಮಾಡೋ ವಿಧಾನ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀನಿ..

Nucchinunde is prepared mostly in South Karnataka.. It can be prepared for breakfast, neivedya or blessed food for Gods..


Togaribele or toor daal ತೊಗರಿಬೇಳೆ – 1 cup or 250 grams soaked in water for 3 hours

Green chillies ಹಸಿರು ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ- 5 to 7
Red chillies ಕೆಂಪು ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ- 2
Cumin seeds ಜೀರಿಗೆ- 2 tspns
Coriander leaves ಕೊತ್ತಂಬರಿ ಸೊಪ್ಪು- 1/2 cup
Coconut grated ಕಾಯಿ ತುರಿ- 1/2 cup
ಶುಂಠಿ ginger 1 inch grated
ಇಂಗು asafoetida a pinch




First coarsely grind coconut grates + soaked and drained togaribele.. Coarsely grinding is very important …
Now separately grind chillies, coriander leaves, jeera, salt, and mix with coarsely ground dal+coconut mixture.. Mix asafoetida and ginger here. mix all properly..

Make oval rounds and steam in idli cooker or if in pressure cooker , steam in a cooker vessel for 15 minutes without putting whistle…

Serve with chutney , sauce or ghee..


** You can add sabsige soppu or dil leaves or Pudina and mix before steaming.

** Same recipe can be prepared using kadale bele + togaribele +hesaru bele combination each in equal ratios ..
